Self-proclaimed socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attended the Met Gala, the most elitist luxury event on the planet, wearing a ‘Tax The Rich’ dress.
She claimed it was her “responsibility” to attend the event where tickets cost upwards of $30,000 and tables cost $300,000 for companies to rent.
Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) understands irony about as well as she understands economics and American history.
Ocasio-Cortez also decided that she didn’t want to wear a mask during the event.
This is laughable considering Ocasio-Cortez has spent over a year attacking Americans who dare to oppose masks. So did Covid pause for one night, or does it spread differently between politicians and celebrities? Unfortunately, we’ve been waiting for answers for a while from many high-ranking officials who seem to follow a different set of rules than they demand citizens to follow.
She made sure to justify the dress by announcing it was made by a “sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant designer.”
“And before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions for the public,” AOC tweeted early Tuesday. “I was one of several in attendance in this evening,” she noted defensively.
Many people online pointed out that her defensive comments were a hint that she knew the optics of attending such an event would be horrible but ultimately cared more about feeling famous. The definition of a hypocrite.
“‘Tax the Rich’… But first I’m gonna go have the time of my life partying with them all at the most extravagant over the top party of the year that is essentially a celebration of richness,” Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy tweeted sarcastically.
“What makes @AOC a bigger fraud: The ‘tax the rich’ dress while she’s hanging out with a bunch of wealthy leftwing elites or the lack of masks after spending the past 18 months as one of the biggest authoritarian mask Karens in the country?” Donald Trump Jr. questioned.
Even loser Michael Rapaport took a shot at AOC, tweeting, “Custom TAX THE RICH dress while at the most elitist event in the world.”
“@AOC will soon be rich with a ginormous production deal from somewhere & done with Politics, guarantee it,” he wrote.
“Stop treating ANY of these people like celebrities they are public servants that work for US.”
Human rights advocate Tina Ramirez noted it was “obscenely out of touch and completely hypocritical” of the representative who “makes well over double the national average salary and who voted to give herself a pay raise.”
To make matters worse for AOC, Black Lives Matter supporters were protesting the event outside. Images circulated of BLM protesters angrily protesting the event outside while their socialist leader was smiling at the upscale elitist event with multiple billionaires.
“Police were creasing people’s heads outside while you and your friends were nibbling watermelon tarts with smoked yuzu soy on panipuri crackers,” tweeted Andray Domise, a member of Black Alliance for Peace.
It is also believed that AOC did not pay for her ticket, and it is still unclear who invited her to the gala. Definitely not a good look for the wannabe socialist President who also tried selling overpriced ‘Tax The Rich’ shirts to her supporters.
