Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is receiving backlash over the $58 ‘tax the rich’ sweatshirt being sold on her campaign shop.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone considering AOC’s stance on capitalism and wealth. The interesting part about the ‘tax the rich’ sweatshirt is that the only people who can afford this ridiculously priced sweatshirt are the rich.
As conservative commentator Ben Shapiro put best: “Only the rich can afford this idiotic sweatshirt”.
AOC claims the reason for the price is that it is all made in the US by union labor. While it may be true, it is still a very high price tag coming from a woman whose career depends on bashing the wealthy.
Many people had fun with the sweatshirt and took the opportunity to mock it on social media.
While the sweatshirt is certainly funny, the fact that AOC is rising in popularity is not. Socialism is becoming more popular in our country as Bernie Sanders said himself: “Ideas that were considered radical not many years ago are now becoming mainstream”. The dangers socialism poses to our economy are immense and can not be taken lightly. While the average person would suffer from these policies, the ones in power like AOC would be reaping the rewards.
